Welch Healthcare & Retirement Group
Welch Healthcare & Retirement Group’s mission is to build and manage communities that ensure independence, choice, dignity and continuity of care for older adults. This tradition and commitment to helping others began in 1949 when the late Thomas (Frank) and Rita M. Welch founded the John Scott House in their home in Braintree. What began with Mrs. Welch, a nurse, caring for frail elders in their home grew into a leader in Massachusetts independent living providers and a pioneer of the integrated campus continuum. Welch was one of the first companies to establish adult day health and child day care programs to complement its residential and skilled nursing care.
Mrs. Rita Welch was the first licensed nursing home administrator in Massachusetts. The Welch family were founding members of the Massachusetts Federation of Homes, the advocacy group now known as the Massachusetts Senior Care Association. Mrs. Welch was also one of the first garden home residents at The Village where she lived until her death in February, 2014 at age 93.
Today, under the leadership of third and fourth-generation family members, Welch Healthcare & Retirement Group has grown to employ more than 1,800 caregivers and staff to serve the needs of older adults and their families.
